Actually it is Tulsi Gabbard who is lying here:

  1. “largely unchecked authority” — IPAB’s authority is not unchecked. Members are approved by Congress and Congress can make cuts and cost-savings to pre-empt any IPAB recommendation.
  2. “With no nominees presently on the board, current law could give the Secretary of Health and Human Services unilateral power to make changes to Medicare…” Wrong. Current law does not give IPAB’s authority to the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Gabbard is scaremongering just like the Republicans she voted with on this legislation (the majority of the Progressive Caucus voted against this rotten legislation).
